5 Essential Rules of Tajweed for Beginners

Learning to recite the Quran with proper pronunciation and rules is known as Tajweed. For beginners, understanding these rules is crucial to avoid altering the meaning of the verses. Here are 5 essential rules to start with:

1. Makharij al-Huruf (Points of Articulation): Knowing exactly where each Arabic letter originates in the throat, tongue, or lips.
2. Noon Sakinah and Tanween: Rules governing the silent ‘Noon’ sound, including Izhar (clarity), Idgham (merging), Iqlab (changing to M), and Ikhfa (hiding).
3. Meem Sakinah: Rules for the silent ‘Meem’ sound.
4. Qalqalah (Echoing sound): The bouncing or echoing sound made on five specific letters (Qaf, Ta, Ba, Jeem, Dal) when they are silent.
5. Madd (Prolongation): Extending the sound of vowel letters under specific conditions.

By practicing these daily with a qualified teacher, you can master the beautiful art of Quranic recitation.
